Middle School Students are assessed at least twice a year in the following FitnessGram fitness test components:
1. Body Composition (BMI): Height and Weight
2. Cardiovascular Endurance: One Mile or Pacer
3. Abdominal Strength: Curl-Ups
4. Muscular Strength: Push-Ups
5. Flexibility: Trunk Lift
Students will perform the FitnessGram testing at the beginning of each quarter (for PE) to establish baseline data of their individual fitness level. Each student will record, and compare, their individual scores to the Healthy Fitness Zone Standards. Using this information, students will be able to set personal fitness goals he/she wishes to achieve by the end of their time in Physical Education. At the end of each quarter, students will undergo the same FitnessGram testing, compare their updated scores, and reflect on their individual goals.
As physical educators, we will utilize a software program called WELNET® that is designed to gather student fitness data and communicate results. WELNET®'s modules offer a variety of tracking and assessment tools, including measuring the five components of fitness, checking students' understanding of fitness and health concepts, tracking students' health-related habits and behaviors, supporting student goal setting and producing reports in each module to analyze trends, improve instruction and achieve program goals and outcomes.
